"Mark John McEncroe's Musical Images for Piano does just what it says on the tin: delivers a collection of piano pieces that immediately conjure up images in the listener's mind.
McEncroe draws his inspiration from the setting of his Japanese garden, but beyond that, does little to share his own stories. Instead, he encourages the listener to create an atmosphere where they can turn inward to give the compositions depth by associating them with their own memories... which it
McEncroe's latest album, Musical Images for Piano, has received a great review at cinemusical. "The recording itself offers a rich piano sound and Hagino’s performances are often quite moving. "The collection plays like a modern impressionist set featuring nice melodic content and traditional harmony which, in one way, sort of answers the question, “What if Satie wrote a couple hours of Gymnopedie?” Here, it results in a couple of hours of relaxing, unobtrusive piano music."
In September 2017 Mark travelled to the USA to re-record his solo piano works. All pieces from both volumes of “Reflections & Recollections - musical Images for piano” were recorded again in Rockport MA at the Shalin Liu Performance Centre with Japanese /American concert pianist Yoko Hagino. The album was produced by Grammy Award winner Brad Michel. Mark will be returning in 2018 to record his next lot of new piano pieces with the same team, for a double album to be released
On March 10th, McEncroe's 4th CD, "Dark Clouds In Life" will be released through Parma Recordings and Navona Records. This is a special collection of Mark's piano and orchestral works, a conceptual release focused on overcoming addiction and depression which draws on personal experience.
